It’s Good to Be Prepared

When Dr. Jon Fleming was 15 years old, he experienced an F5 tornado that devastated his hometown of Charles City, Iowa. Ever since then, he has been fascinated with the weather and believed in the importance of being prepared.

Jon’s interest in the weather led him to his bachelor’s degree in meteorology from Iowa State University. During his college years, he realized he would prefer a profession that allowed him to interact more with people, and medicine seemed

like the perfect fit. He earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.

A big fan of Ames and Iowa State University, Jon returned in 1986 to begin his practice as a gastroenterologist at McFarland Clinic and Mary Greeley Medical Center until his retirement in 2012.

Jon developed the gastrointestinal program and is very grateful for the commitment of Mary Greeley’s administration to providing a new GI lab. He credits their support and dedication with boosting his practice and making his >professional experience even more rewarding.

However, it was the commitment of all staff who inspired him to include the Mary Greeley Foundation in his will. “It’s not just the bricks and mortar or the equipment, but the entire staff who make Mary Greeley such a wonderful place. I wanted to invest in the people and future of Mary Greeley, and including a specific dollar amount in my will was an easy way to do it,” he says.

At a young age, Jon had a wake-up call. You never know when tragedy can strike. “I believe everyone needs to be prepared and plan for the future. Estate planning not only allows us to provide for those dear to us, but also fund organizations and programs we are passionate about, like Mary Greeley Medical Center.”

You, like Jon, can ensure Mary Greeley Medical Center continues its important work with a gift from your estate. To learn more, contact Sarah Heineman at 515-239-2421 or heineman@mgmc.com.
